Composition Lab: Making Images Intentionally
Composition Lab: Making Images Intentionally-Learn how to make stronger images with intention. In this 4-week workshop, we’ll explore the foundational building blocks of composition (framing, cropping, balance, focal emphasis, and visual flow) to help you create work that feels satisfying and deliberate. Through short demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and open studio time, you’ll learn to improve your layouts and apply these ideas to the media you choose. Whether you’re returning to your creative practice or building confidence, this class will help you as it emphasizes seeing and making choices, rather than technical perfection. You’ll leave with a series of resolved compositional studies and tools you can apply across drawing, painting, and other media.
Classes will include brief demos, guided exercises, group discussion, and time for individual exploration. All levels welcome; however students should note that this class will not focus on mechanics or concepts of drawing. The class will primarily focus on dry media and black-and-white work. Students should bring materials they are comfortable working with (ink, graphite, charcoal, etc.). Some shared materials will be provided; a full materials list will be sent prior to the first class.

Floral Watercolor Collage Workshop- Immerse yourself in the elegant art of botanical collage as we create stunning 18x24" floral compositions that blend natural beauty with vintage charm.
Drawing inspiration from 18th-century botanical artist Mary Delany and Victorian explorer-painter Marianne North, you'll craft a distinctive piece featuring vibrant florals, cheerful lemons, a classic Maine lobster, lush seasonal greenery, and a hand-painted vintage paper vessel.
In this relaxed, creative session, you'll hand-paint each collage element using watercolors, learning to play with color, texture, and scale to bring your vision to life. We'll explore compositional techniques together, discussing how to arrange your pieces for maximum visual impact. Then, as a group, we'll assemble our collages and add those perfect finishing touches that make each piece uniquely yours.

Line Lab: Communicating Through Intentional Mark-Marking
Line Lab: Communicating Through Intentional Mark-Marking-Line is one of the most fundamental (and often overlooked) elements of visual art. In this 4-week class, students will focus on line as a primary tool for description, expression, and decision-making. Rather than emphasizing realism or finished drawings, the class centers on how line quality, weight, rhythm, and restraint shape an image. Through short lectures, demonstrations, and guided studio exercises, students will explore a range of line approaches from slow observational contour to expressive and minimal mark-making. Emphasis will be placed on intentional choices: when to add a line, when to vary it, and when to leave it out altogether.
Students will work primarily in small formats, completing a series of line-based studies and one to two more resolved compositions. Subject matter will remain simple (think: still life objects, natural objects, or abstract prompts) so attention can stay on how lines function rather than what is being drawn.
This class is appropriate for all levels and works well alongside drawing, painting, or mixed-media practices. Students may work in ink, charcoal or graphite; materials will be kept intentionally simple to support focus and experimentation. Some materials will be provided and a materials list will be sent prior to class.

Floral Watercolor Collage Workshop - Coastal Edition- If you enjoyed Session 1 (or if you are new to the collage classes), come back as we create another stunning 18x24" watercolor collage—this time celebrating the beauty of Maine's shoreline! This session focuses on the organic textures and subtle colors of coastal treasures: delicate seaweed fronds, clusters of blue-black mussels, wispy sea heather, oyster shells with their pearlescent interiors, and elegant sandpipers. Continuing in the tradition of Mary Delany and Marianne North, you'll hand-paint each coastal element using watercolors, exploring the unique textures and earthy palette of the seaside. Mount & Seal Your Artworks!: Presenting Watercolors Without Glass:: Join Danielle Hood for a hands-on, two-part workshop where you’ll learn how to mount your watercolor or gouache artwork on a panel and seal it for a beautiful, glass-free presentation - so it can be framed and hung similar to oil or acrylic paintings. We’ll cover surface prep, safe adhesion techniques, and applying a protective wax coat so your piece is ready to frame or hang.

Build a Ceramic Paint Palette
Build a Ceramic Paint Palette - In this hands-on ceramics class, explore how function meets artistry as you create your own custom paint palette. Using pre-rolled clay slabs, you'll design, carve, and refine your piece with guidance from ceramic artist Brooke Knippa of AP Curiosities. Experiment with texture and layout as you create a palette that reflects your personal artistic style. Students are welcome to come with a few design ideas or references for inspiration. We paint and interpret from still life setups, our own printed photos and imagination. Class will begin with a short lesson/demo warm up that you'll try on paper, then we'll start a painting of your choice on canvas.
This class is best suited for Beginner and Mid level artists. Jen has a keen sense of what her students need for guidance so she can effortlessly support students at both levels simultaneously.
If you are a more advanced artist or have taken this class before and are ready to work more independently, Jen welcomes you to join this class for the space and place. You'll enjoy friendly, constructive critique and camaraderie. You can participate in the lesson and warm ups if you would like or just get right to painting at your own pace.

Adult Art Camp Series: Hydrangea Art Workshop: Adults can go to art camp too! Come to the studio garden, for our annual Hydrangea Workshop! Create an artwork inspired by our lovely hydrangea wall that fills the studio garden. We will have a plethora of supplies to use, so adult “camper” artists will be able to feel inspired by what feels right to them. Watercolors, thread, pastels, inks are just some of the materials we will have out. During this 3 hour workshop we will talk about composition, color theory, layering, and design elements to make your hydrangea pop with visual interest. Come do something for yourself, and hang at the art studio for a few hours!

This class will begin with a demonstration covering materials, basic techniques and tips for handling soft pastels effectively. There will be a series of guided exercises on color, light and form before creating your own masterpiece.

Amy Toneys is a Yarmouth-based artist with a background in painting and architecture. A graduate of St. Norbert College and Rhode Island School of Design, she brings her love of structure, light and place to both her custom house portraits and her teaching. She’s excited to share her passion for soft pastels in this hands-on workshop.

3 Week Painting Studio (June/July)- For those that have already completed one of Stephanie’s painting/water soluble art classes, this studio level class will give your the opportunity to refine and finish assignments and projects. This class is considered a studio class, where minimal instruction will be given, but you will have time to focus on specific goals. Stephanie will guide, and give constructive feedback back on any current projects you’ve got going on, while allowing your artistic freedom to flourish. This is your chance to devote more time to your artistic practice, and refine those skills you’ve been taught!

Lupine Painting Workshop
Lupines are magical in so many ways - let’s paint them together! During this one way workshop, you will enter into the magical world of watercolor as you learn the ropes of blending, color mixing, and value building.
This workshop is taught and led by instructor Stephanie Berry. She will have guided handouts, as well as pre-drawn lupines for you to build off of. Whether you are a seasoned artist that wants to paint something magical in your own style, or if you have no experience at all, this workshop is for you! We welcome all levels, and we all share the same goal of: “art can be a meditative practice”. Come paint some lupines with us!

Painting Field Trip Series: Town Landing Boat Launch- Come join us as we get out of the house (and the studio!) to paint in nature! This class is designed for artists that are comfortable with water soluble materials. We will have a few different “field trips” set up, so we can’t wait to get started!
Join us at Town Landing Boat Launch in Yarmouth, from 10:30am-12:30pm on June 16th! We will set up on some picnic tables, or throw a blanket on the ground (if you feel able enough to do so), and take in the surroundings to inspire our artworks. Whether you are painting a boat or the landscape, join us as we let nature to inspire us.

Adult Art Camp Series: Watercolor Pouring Method
Adult Art Camp Series: Watercolor Pouring Method: Adults can go to art camp too! Have fun with this one day watercolor workshop as we dive into the world of “the pouring method”. This method allows artists to pour liquid watercolor layer by layer, and let loose a little. With this technique, artists will choose their subject matter and receive 3 liquid watercolors to “pour” onto their papers to create stunning artworks. This workshop is great for those that want to try something completely different, as this does not use a paintbrush in a standard painting format. Watching paint dry has literally never been more fun! Come try this awesome practice of watercolor pouring!

Painting Field Trip Series: Gardens at Pineland Farm- Come join us as we get out of the house (and the studio!) to paint in nature! This class is designed for artists that are comfortable with water soluble materials. We will have a few different “field trips” set up, so we can’t wait to get started!
Join us at The Gardens At Pineland Farms from 10:30am-12:30pm on June 9th! We will set up on some benches, but please be advised picnic tables are limited/not as readily available. If you’d like to bring a chair, that would be great!
Whether you are painting a landscape, or even a flower from the field, join us as we let nature to inspire us.

Please be advised that you need to have a “Winslow Park Pass” to park and use the grounds (Day use pass: $2 for Freeport residents, and $3 for non residents). We will set up on some picnic tables, or on the rocks (if you feel able enough to do so), and take in the surroundings to inspire our artworks. Whether you are painting a landscape, or even a flower from the field, join us as we let nature to inspire us.

Color in Flow Workshop
Adults can play too! Art allows us to open our mind, and find a new way of capturing little moments. This class is designed for those that want to try something a little different and use a range of 2D materials. We will explore color harmonies, layering with texture, and getting into the “flow state” within our own artistic practice. Process > Product. Materials we will explore will be: liquid inks, water soluble pastels, colored pencils and more.
